Montemuse is located on the edge of Sibillini National Park, close to the historic hilltop town of Montefalcone. Ask any Italian and they will tell you it’s one of the most beautiful parts of their country – a picturesque mediaeval village on every hilltop, golden fields of sunflowers, impossibly photogenic mountain views, and tranquil nature trail (photographer’s paradise).
Then there are the festivals, museums, churches, restaurants, markets, art, music, opera, tradition and culture, all as authentically Italian as you will find anywhere.
For the energetic, sun soaked beaches, tennis, walking, climbing, cycling, horse-riding and skiing are all within reach. And for the gastronomer, this is a prime region for both black and white truffles, regional cheeses, porchetta, and the famed Montepulciano wines.
In August, nearby Ascoli Piceno hosts a spectacular mediaeval carnival with thousands of its citizens parading in 15th century costume. There is also an antiques market every third weekend. Or if opera under the stars is your thing, a visit to the magnificent Arena Sferisterio at Macerata is unforgettable.
Further afield, Assisi with its glorious church-within-a-basilica is little more than two hours distant. Rome takes just 3 hours, Bologna 3 hours, and Florence and Venice both an easy 4-5.
